Sovereign Grace Churches

Church planting is the New Testament strategy for accomplishing the Great Commission. Our Savior sends us into the world to make disciples from among all the nations. And although the work of establishing new congregations isn’t exactly the Great Commission - making disciples is - the work of church planting is what happens when we go. God saves the lost and gathers them into his church.

The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.
— Matthew 9:37

The SGC Way

We have a passion to spread the gospel of Jesus and, as with any family of churches, how we do it looks a lot like us. This is why we say “we plant the SGC way.” There’s nothing innovative about how we plant churches. In fact, we strive to follow the well-worn patterns of the faithful generations of church planters that have gone before us.

Church Planting Pathway

We are committed to entrusting this mission to faithful men. This is why we offer a structured process for identifying gifted, called, and qualified church planters.

We also provide generous support along the way. We lead cohorts, offer curriculum, assign coaches and mentors. The Church Planting Path is your guide to navigate the entire process.

The Antioch Program is a retreat for pastoral teams desiring to grow in outward mission.

If Sovereign Grace Churches exists to “plant and build” local churches, Antioch is the “and” linking the two. It takes its model from the church in Antioch which was known as both a strong local church and the first place mission was proactively sent forward in church planting.

The retreat is for pastoral teams to attend together and is followed by coaching to support participants.

2025 program information is now available. You can read about how the 2023 Program went here.

Small Towns exists to help churches in small places participate in the big mission of Sovereign Grace. We are a fellowship of pastors committed to equipping, encouraging, and supporting the work of church planting from one small place to the next.

The Church Planting Group hosts a Church Planter National Assessment event each January.

This event is designed to serve those who are exploring a call to church planting. The event covers everything from preaching and evangelism to marriage, family and leadership. While none of this replaces the assessments that you receive from your local church and region, your national assessment will be the foundation upon which they complete their assessments and plans.

2025 program information is now available.
